Our Side
Merrydowners Morris ........ Originated in June 1990 when a group of local volunteers and a few 'pressed men' were assembled together to provide entertainment for our local church fete at St Albans Church, North Harrow, (North West London) . It started out as a bit of fun and was supposed to be a 'one off performance but soon turned into a more serious past-time as various team members started to enjoy the experience as time went on.
We now regularly perform at events throughout the year and have on the odd occasion been known to 'dance out' at various pubs in the local area.
Many of our performances tend to be in nearby towns and villages but we have from time to time been called upon to entertain at a few very prestigious events including; the Euro 96 football reception at the Guild Hall, City of London. In 2004 we visited Honk Kong as part of London's entry in the Hong Kong Chinese New Year celebrations and in 2015 we performed in Paris in their New Years Day Parade, dancing down the Champ Elysees. We have also appeared in several CNN V news items and the BBC T.V. program 'The One Show' as part of their various features associated with Morris Dancing.
Our Philosophy about Morris Dancing is quite simple. We dance because we enjoy it. It's a very English tradition and we also try and bring a sense of fun and culture to people who may not have been aware of our Morris Dance Folk heritage .
We are always on the lookout for new members, male or female to join our team. No Morris Dancing experience is necessary, you only need to be someone who is willing to learn and have fun. We generally, meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month to practice so if you are interested, why not come along. To find out more contact our Bagman, Tony using the form below :-
